Hall of Fame: Girls/Boys Varsity Bball @Kennedy

Hall of Fame group photo

On Friday, December 21, 2018 there was a double header Varsity Girls and Boys basketball game against Jefferson at home. The Boys Varsity losing 48-50 and the Girls Varsity winning 45-30. This event also conceded of the Hall of Fame towards past students of Kennedy High School.

Two people that have been in the Kennedy Hall of Fame include: Julianne Wilson (second from the left in the photo provided) and Vanessa Vega (Schrock). Julianne was my Physical Education at Cedar Valley, from Kindergarten until 6th grade. Not knowing that Julianne went to Kennedy, it was a complete surprise walking into the gym and seeing her sitting in the front row.

Vanessa Vega happens to be my aunt, and she was inducted into the Kennedy Hall of Fame in 2009 after she graduated in 2001. Here she explains her experience to me, "It was in 2009, and do you want to know why I remember that? Because I was pregnant with him (talking about my cousin)...I announced it at the Hall of Fame, to all of those who were watching." At the Hall of Fame in 2009 she exclaims that, "What I remember most about my experience in Kennedy sports is all of the great teammates I had...Kennedy was a great building block for me to live my dream."

After high school my aunt later went on to Arkansas State where she played on Varsity basketball and played against the Iowa Hawkeyes. And today she still holds records for Kennedy basketball etc.

Besides the Hall of Fame and the double header basketball games, there was a very exciting dance performed by the Kennedy Dance Team. Dressed in their Christmas costumes they really kicked it off with the kicking. There was even a small competition of counting how many kicks the team did. If you guessed right then you could possibly win $50. There were about 4 or 5 that guessed the right amount but only one person won (do not remember who).

In conclusion, make sure to come out to the basketball games. It's a great way to kick back, relax, and cheer on you team. Go Cougs!
